My Time at Oklahoma
With football season fast approaching, I’m getting excited about Oklahoma Football. I’ve also been reminiscing a little bit about my time at Oklahoma. The five years I was at Oklahoma was a very turbulent time for Oklahoma football. My dad played football for Oklahoma in the late 1950s, so I grew up dreaming of playing for the Sooners and being a part of OU football history. Fortunately and unfortunately for me I was. During the 5 years at OU I had 3 different head coaches and 4 different position coaches. That doesn’t bode well for consistency and ability to learn “a system”. We never had a winning season. The three years of John Blake were also the worst 3 years of OU football history (12-22 record). From week to week we would literally scrap our entire offensive scheme for whatever Blake thought was cool and would be a crowd pleaser. For one game we learned the whole wishbone/option offense only to scrap it a few series into the game. Crazy times…
Despite all of that I am very proud to have played for OU and wouldn’t have changed it for the world.
