Guys Night Out of Town
This weekend Chris, Mike, and I headed to Houston for guys night out. Chris is a big Chicago Cubs fan and they were playing the Houston Astros, so we decided a night in Houston was in order. Chris picked up some tickets online and I found us a hotel on priceline.com. I was just happy that we got such a great deal ($64 for the Hilton Americas) on a room at a 4-star in the downtown area. It wasn’t until we got there that we realized how perfect it was. We jumped in the car and started our journey. When we got to Houston we ran into the typical traffic that always seems to exist in Houston and for no apparent reason. It wasn’t too bad and we were soon in the downtown area.
We checked into Hilton and got a room on the 18th floor overlooking the Toyota Center, with Reliant Stadium and the Astrodome way off in the distance. Walking down the hall to our room we saw a window looking to the north where we saw Minute Maid Park. The hotel was about 3 blocks away from the baseball game. We chilled at the hotel for a few hours and started the trek to the park.
The game was fun to watch although the Cubs didn’t fair so well in the game. They lost 4-1. The last half of the game was really cool. We went over behind home plate and found some empty seats.
After the game we had a pretty good buzz going, so there was no sense in stopping there. We headed back to the hotel bar and got a couple more drinks. Then we decided to crash a pirate party happening in the ballroom on the second floor. It was a trip. Apparently it was a costume party for a local company. From there we hit the town for a few hours. By that time we were three sheets and it was time for a late night snack of Burger King. That’s about all Chris and I could remember until about 6:30am, when I woke up to find Mike sitting outside the hotel room door. I asked him what the heck he was doing there and he said that he locked himself out. He was sitting by the hotel room door for like 4 hours. Chris and I were passed out so hard that we couldn’t hear hit banging on the door. He tried to go to the lobby and get a key, but they would not give him one since his name was not on the room. Even if it was he didn’t have his ID. Mike was not a happy camper.
The next morning we were all feeling a little hungover. We jumped in the car and headed back to Austin for our hangover cure of Maudies. 🙂
All in all it was a really fun night and it scares me that this was just a warmup for Vegas.
