I’m a law-abiding citizen who owns firearms for my enjoyment. Last year, I purchased a Smith & Wesson MP15T (read AR-15 “assault rifle”). This weapon is a pleasure of mine. I enjoy taking it to my brother’s ranch and popping off a few rounds when I can. This new administration is however making it difficult for me to enjoy this pleasure of mine. Will this become a SIN tax too like beer, alcohol, cigarettes, etc? No… the government is going to attack the Arms Manufacturers in a round-about way. They don’t want to be know as “the administration that took everyone’s second ammendments rights away”. They are just going to make it astronomically expensive to enjoy your legal purchased firearms, by raising the price of ammo by 500% and putting the arms manufacturers out of business, therebye leading to layoffs of hundreds or thousands of workers.

Georgia Arms is the 5th largest retailer of .223 Ammo in America . They
\nsell 9mm, .45, ..223 ammunition. They normally buy spent brass from the
\nUS Department of Defense. Spent brass is “one time used” shell cases
\nused by our Military for training purposes.<\/p>\n
They buy the brass, recondition it, and then reload the brass for resale
\nto Law Enforcement, Gun Clubs, Gun Shops, and stores like Wal-Mart. They
\nnormally buy 30,000 lbs of spent brass at a time.<\/p>\n
This week the DoD wrote a letter to the owner of Georgia Arms and
\ninformed him that from now on the DoD will be destroying the spent
\nbrass, shredding it. It will no longer be available to the ammo makers,
\nunless they buy it in a scrap shredded condition (which they have no use
\nfor). The shredded brass is now going to be sold by the DoD to China as
\nscrap metal, after the DoD pays for it to be shredded. The DoD is
\nselling the brass to China for less money than the ammo makers have been
\npaying, plus the DoD has to pay to have the brass shredded and do the
\naccounting paperwork.<\/p>\n
This sure helps the economy now doesn’t it? Sell cheaper to China , and
\ndo not sell at all to=2 0a proven US business. Any hidden agenda working
\nhere? Obama going after the Firearms Industry and our ammunition!! The
\nGeorgia Arms owner even related a story that one of his competitors had
\nalready purchased a load of brass last week. The DoD contacted him this
\nweek and said they were sending someone over to make sure it was
\ndestroyed. Shell cases he had already bought!<\/p>\n
The brass has no value to the ammo maker if it is
\ndestroyed\/shredded\/melted. The ammo manufacturer only uses the empty
\nbrass cases to reload different calibers, mainly .223 bullets.<\/p>\n
The owner of Georgia Arms says that he will have to lay off at least
\nhalf of his 60 workers, within 2-3 months if the DoD will no longer sell
\nspent brass cases to the industry. Georgia Arms has 2-3 months of
\ninventory to use, by summer they’re out.<\/p>\n
If the Reloading Industry has to purchase new manufacture brass cases,
\nthen the cost of ammunition will double or even triple, plus Obama want
\nto add a 500% tax on each shell..<\/p>\n
